Jawaher Gheith is working to make a name for herself in the competitive world of Palestinian handicraft production. For starters, Jawaher is focusing on producing small quantities of personalized ceramic pieces and marketing them to her family and friends. For Jawaher, marketing has become a challenge and since she produces limited quantities she is currently relying on word of mouth to help promote her products.
With no clear direction to professionally take her home-based business to the next level, Jawaher found herself at an impasse and unsure how to proceed. During this time, MENACatalyst launched GIZ supported program based in Jerusalem, Empowering Youth Through Digital Skills Development and soon joined. It was during her participation in the program that Jawaher was able to take the initial steps towards fulfilling her professional goals and develop an initial business and financial plan. Jawaher was also able to connect with business experts and mentors who have since guided her on her journey to become self-employed.
To accomplish her goals, it is recommended that Jawaher,
- Digital marketing skills development with a focus on social media marketing.
- Specialized skill development based on needs, this can include calligraphy, photography, etc.
- Access to extended networks of support to reach new markets.
- English language skills development to appeal to a larger customer base inside and outside of Palestine.
- Branding support.
